When it comes to the renovation of a historical building, one of the most important aspects of the redesign is the windows. The windows and doors of a historical structure need a lot of attention during restoration, and off-the-shelf solutions do not often match the original size or style of the building.

Marc and Paula Turnier are architects from Kensington who acquired a dilapidated Victorian villa in Thanet, Ramsgate. While converting the property into five holiday lets and a one-bedroom home, their main goal was to restore the building in a way that preserved its heritage.

In this blog, we’ll explore how Slide and Fold helped them towards achieving the final look they wanted for the rear workshop at Faversham Villa.

The project at Faversham Villa

Marc Turnier was drawn to the idea of developing a property in Ramsgate, as it was where he holidayed as a child. The once dilapidated building now features five holiday flats to let.

However, the two architects had other plans for the original workshop located at the rear of the property. Rather than another flat, they wanted to create a unique one-bedroom home.

Their ambition was to retain the industrial and commercial heritage of the building while creating a “quirky finish” with a “nice home feel to it.”

Marc and Paula approached Slide and Fold to manufacture a large gridded window to cover the majority of the back of the property.

Since their planning application, Marc and Paul have been contacted by Channel 4 to film the transformation of the workshop for the TV series, Great British Home Restoration.

The show centres around the restoration of unusual and historic buildings that were not originally built to be lived in as they are turned into homes.

The show is expected to air on October 23, where viewers will be able to see more of the process involving Slide and Fold.
